About

Dr. Cheryl Giacomelli

Post-Doctoral Psychology Fellow

I am passionate about supporting individuals and families through life's unique challenges. With a background spanning over a decade, my journey in psychology began with a bachelor's degree from New York University, a master's in developmental psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. Since 2011, I've had the privilege of teaching psychology courses and working across diverse settings, from inpatient and residential treatment centers for children and adolescents to private practice and college counseling. In recent years, I expanded my work to include clients navigating infertility, providing counseling and assessment. However, the work closest to my heart has been with parents of neurodiverse children, helping them navigate the unique challenges and joys of their journey.

With over a decade of experience in psychology, I am passionate about supporting parents of neurodiverse children through a blend of therapy, support, and practical parent training. My therapeutic approach integrates cognitive-behavioral techniques, person-centered therapy, and psychodynamic principles tailored to meet each client's unique needs. I specialize in a range of issues, from parent training and adjustment challenges to managing anxiety, depression, and relational concerns.

At the core of my work is a commitment to fostering emotional resilience and well-being in a warm, empathetic, and supportive space. Whether in therapy or the classroom, I aim to create environments where growth and healing can flourish, guided by a passion for teaching and clinical practice.
